You did it! I knew you would, I just knew you would!

On the continuing trail of Wonka locations (1970). Luckily it's only 41 years ago, otherwise it would be really diffcult. Of course I was actually living in Germany then (about 1972-1975) so we could have just gone there then if I'd known (and had been mad enough). I go back to Mariahilfkirche and then go north east up Lilienstrasse until I am in the 'GoogleEarth' position.

Reminder of screen shot

Same location today. Almost. Actually, I need to
be about 20 metres back and a few to the right,
but it's hard when you can't actually see the
church or the buildings. I'll get another shot
tomorrow. YES I WILL.

Luckily there are more jigsaw pieces which help
to confirm things. See the shop directly behind
Charlie? That is the one in my picture, above.
You can just make out the first-floor balconies.
Also, see the little alcove above the van roof
and between the two windows? That is in
the right place, too.

In this view you can see the alove, with a little statue
in it. Also now you can actually see the steeple just
sticking up over the peach-coloured building.
This is the right angle for the Candy Store view
but should be 20 metres back to be accurate.

Closer view

AND THERE'S MORE

The location of the newsagent (Mr Jopeck) and the
street Charlie runs on when he gets the golden ticket
is just by the shop location (I wasn't sure if it would
be at all but I got lucky).

Same (almost) view today. Doorway on left
and windows beyond are exactly right.

This is a bit further along the street and the
buildings right and in far background also
match. After that the trail goes cold and
I can't find the few locations Charlie ran
along after that, including the steps down
to the tunnel/underpass.

But still, an awesome achievement.

I might need to write to Google to tell them
how pleased I am with their endeavours.
